Busta Rhymes Concert At Blush Winnipeg August 17 2009
-
It has been a little while since a big name Hip Hop artist has came through Winnipeg but it looks like that trend is about to change on August 17 2009. One of the biggest artists in Hip Hop for the last 10 years (and still today), Busta Rhymes, is coming to Blush Ultraclub in Winnipeg. Opening for Busta will be Canada’s own Belly and Peter Jackson.
-
Blush should be a great venue for an event like this as it will provide a much more intimate and danceable show then the MTS or Convention Centre could (which would normally house a concert of this caliber). Tickets are priced at $42.50 and $55.00 for the show and will likely sell out quickly seeing as Blush is a relatively smaller venue. This is an 18+ event. See full details and artist information below:

BUSTA
Universal Motown has announced the signing of Busta Rhymes to its label. As one of hip-hop’s most enduring iconic figures, Busta Rhymes is acknowledged among rap’s greatest lyricists and performers as a hip–hop icon. Busta Rhymes’ first album release on Universal Motown Back On My B S is scheduled for release on December 9th.
-
“I am thrilled to reunite with Busta and welcome him to the Universal Motown family” said Universal Motown President Sylvia Rhone. “It’s a rare and wonderful opportunity to be able to sign an artist who is at once a musical icon while remaining completely forward–thinking. Busta is a true original and one of modern culture’s most gifted voices and charismatic characters. His role in hip–hop history is enormous, and his new music ranks among the best work of his career. We had a great multi–platinum run together in the ’90s, and I can’t wait to do it again.”
-
Since 1991 Busta Rhymes has been greeted as a transformational, bar–raising iconoclastic performer and writer. Not only was he a member of the four–man group Leaders of the New School, but also as a member of ‘Native Tongue Brothers’ which consisted of Tribe Called Quest, Leaders Of The New School, Black Sheep, De La Soul and Jungle Brothers. That same year Leaders Of The New School teamed up with A Tribe Called Quest to create the all–time classic single “Scenario,” and released A Future Without a Past on Elektra Records.
-
In 1996 Busta Rhymes released his debut solo album, The Coming, which featured the hit song “Woo Hah! Got You All In Check.” The single marked his first of 14 RIAA gold and platinum certifications in his association with Elektra as a solo artist and founder of Flipmode Squad, and an additional five through J Records and Aftermath/Interscope. His 2006 album, The Big Bang, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart.
-
Busta Rhymes’ run in the international pop, rap and urban top ten has extended over a decade, from the platinum Grammy–nominated single “Woo–Hah!! Got You All in Check” through the No. 1 Hip–Hop/R&B and No. 3 pop “What’s it Gonna Be?!” featuring Janet Jackson and “Pass the Courvoisier” with Diddy and Pharrell, and into the digital era with the gold–certified mastertone “Touch It.” In between making albums, Busta entered the acting arena starring in John Singleton’s hit movie Higher Learning (1995) in which Busta made his acting debut. Busta teamed up again with John Singleton and starred along side Samuel L Jackson, Vanessa Jackson and Christian Bale in the remake of the 1971 classic Shaft (2000). Also in 2000 Busta Rhymes starred with Sir Sean Connery in Finding Forrester, and in 2002 he starred with the ‘Queen Of Horror Movies’ Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween Resurrection.
-
As Busta Rhymes embarks on his eighth studio album Back On My B S on December 9th and his first release through Universal Motown Records, Busta will once again prove that he is a formidable centerpiece in music. As an iconic figure, Busta has demonstrated to be viable and respectable mainstay amongst both diverse group peers and elaborate fan–base. His undeniable talent coupled with upcoming partnerships, demonstrate Busta Rhymes is a living legend.

BELLY

With three successful mixtapes under his belt and after almost a decade as a hip hop producer and songwriter, Ottawa rapper Belly’s double-disc debut THE REVOLUTION premiered at number one on the rap charts in Canada in June of 2007. In the same month, Belly took home a MuchMusic Video Award (MMVA) for Best Rap Video for “Pressure” featuring Ginuwine, delivered a powerful performance at the MMVAs. The Toronto Sun reported, “the standout live performance” of the night and was also interviewed by CNN’s Al Jazeera during a visit to New York City. A few short months later, in October 2007, Belly became the first independent Canadian hip hop artist to go Gold this century!
-
Belly recruited many of hip-hop and R’n'B’s finest to work alongside him on THE REVOLUTION, including Fabulous, the legendary Scarface, Kurupt, Nina Sky, Ginuwine (on first single, “Pressure”, which went to 1 on MuchMusic), Mario Winans, Massari and Monique. Production was deftly handled by Beat Merchant. Da Heala, Goggs, Whosane? and Bacardy also contributed their talents to this soon-to-be-a-classic album. Belly now calling himself ‘Rebllyus” kicked off 2008 with a Middle East release of “The Revolution” and soon after, 2 CMW Indie Awards nominations were also announced for Favourite Video of the Year and Favourite Urban Artist/Group or Duo of the Year. Then came the big one: the Gold-selling rapper took home the 2008 Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year and was also the only rapper nominated in the prestigious New Artist category. This year Belly – Rebllyus also took home the award for Best Rap Video of the Year for his single “Ridin” ft. Mario Winans – directed by RT! at the MuchMusic Video Awards. “7 Days & 7 Nights”, is slated for a North American release in October 2009, with the first single “Hot Girl” hitting radio waves in June 2009 to capitalize on the hot club track for the summer and to help set up the fall release. There is no slowing down for this multi-award winning artist and lyricist. Along with the name change, from Belly to “Rebllyus”, he wrote and co-produced Canadian hot Pop/R’n’B Superstar Danny Fernandes’ debut album “Intro” which got released in October 2008. Two singles off the album “Private Dancer” and “Fantasy” have both peaked in the Top 10 on the charts and has since reached Gold status. This achievement has solidified Rebllyus as a genuine ‘Hit Maker’ and has since moved on to produce & write tracks with some of Canada’s best, which includes such artists as Ivana Santilli & Carl Henry.
-
In the weeks and months leading up to the release of THE REVOLUTION, the Canadian rapper of Palestinian decent showed and proved to all that crossed his path that whether he’s called “Belly” or “Rebllyus”, his sound is signature and is synonymous with controversy and hype. In early 2007, he wowed audiences across Canada with his live show when he toured with and earned the respect of legendary rappers Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. A few months later, his video for “History of Violence” was banned by MVN in the U.S. due to its anti-war messages and graphic images. It has since received over 50,000 spins on YouTube. During NHL Playoff season, he teamed up with Ottawa Senators goalie and friend Ray Emery and set the city ablaze with “Sens Fever’” when he released the Senators anthem “Go Sens Go”. He performed the anthem in his hometown for over 15,000 people, including the Mayor, and it was used in a musical montage on Hockey Night In Canada. And In May Belly became the first Canadian rapper to be interviewed by Geraldo at Large for Fox News.
-
Belly Mania – a term coined by Hulk Hogan himself, while Belly was in the studio recording with his daughter, Brooke Hogan – is hitting Canada harder than ever. The rest of the world is up next. “7 Days 7 Nights” shows the growth in this prolific hit songwriter /producer, and promises to make Rebllyus a household name. With releases scheduled in territories all over the world, the anticipation of this new disc is high and coming soon. Watch out, the revolution continues …

PETER JACKSON
-
Canadians continue to push the idea that “Hip Hop isn’t dead…It lives in the North” most people expect to discover talent in some of the big cities like Toronto, Vancouver and even the east coast town of St. John’s. But when talking about pounding beats and lyrical rhymes, very few would think of Oshawa, Ontario. It may seem an unlikely place to find Canada’s next hip-hop star, but when you look at the cultural make-up of the city of Oshawa itself, it bears a striking resemblance to an American city that has birthed a handful of top emcees. Detroit, Michigan. Both Oshawa & Detroit are the headquarters for General Motors in their respective countries, both have high crime rates and both have spawned some pretty decent white boys that can rhyme. Detroit, Michigan has Eminem and Oshawa, Ontario has Peter Jackson.
-
Twenty-four year old rapper, Peter Jackson, now based in the Durham region, was born and raised in Ajax, Ontario, a small suburb just outside of Toronto. Jackson initially became attracted to the rap industry in his teens. What started as a childhood hobby of freestyling in friends’ basements soon became an obsession. While Jackson would have to struggle to gain respect for his talent in a town that was better known for its punk bands, such as Sum41 he soon began to make a name for himself. This once “less than ambitious” high school student was now dedicating his time to studying the dictionary in order to expand his vocabulary. It wasn’t long before this basement hobby developed into a full-fledged passion and career.
-
Peter Jackson always believed that Hip Hop was his life and was determined to convince other to believe in his dream as much as he did. Jackson knew that if he was to survive in this industry he was going to have to take to the pavement himself to make it happen. Today he is not just an artist who has recorded hundreds of songs, or toured as the supporting artist for legendary rappers, he also boasts a promotions company and a clothing line. Peter Jackson and his team 90Nickel are not just a group of rapper they are a local Hip-Hop franchise.
-
To date Jackson has been a supporting act for artists such as, Wu Tang, Youngblooz, Obie Trice, Llyod Banks, Rupee, Ray J, Drake, Rich Boy, Kardinal Offishall, Joe Budden, Enur, Dip Set, Beenie Man, KRS One, Nas, and The Clipse. He has also hosted parties with names like, Mad Linx, Tiffany, Jayde Nicole, Cabbie on the Street, Matte Babel and Leah Miller of Much Music, Scott Boogie and Devo Brown Flow 93.5, Danny Fernandes, Mr. Vegas, and Shemar Moore. He has also collaborated on tracks with artists ranging from local talent Nikki Awesome, to D12 and most recently Treach of Naughty by Nature. In November of 2008, Peter Jackson was asked to be a part of the cross-Canada “Never say Never” Tour opening for D12, Joe Budden, Royce da 5’9 and Classified. After receiving great reviews Jackson was quickly sent back across the country in March of 2009 to open for Hip Hop superstars Naughty by Nature. And in the summer of 2009, Jackson is set to once again tour Canada with G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and DJ Whoo Kidd.
-
Peter Jackson has appeared on over 50 mixed tapes in North America working with names such as, DJ Rated R, Potent Product, DJ Diggz, DJ Dollah $, and more. He released his own mixed tape titled, Business as Usual hosted by DJ G-Spot of Shadyville DJ fame in 2007. Jackson quickly followed it up with two more compilations, Fly Society, featuring fellow 90Nickle member, and Hustler’s Tears, both hosted by DJ Bedz, the Denver Nuggets official DJ, and Denver, Colorado’s Shadyville DJ. In 2008, Jackson began working with executive producer Sheldon Moore, who has years of experience working with artists such as Citizen Kaine, K-OS, Big Pun, Jahiem. Together they produced and released Peter Jackson’s first EP titled, The Introduction, with features from Jmore, Emmerson Just Brooks, Toya Lexus and Royce da 5’9. The first single from the EP, Come on Over, featuring Jmore is currently receiving radio rotation across Canada after being picked up by Toronto’s Flow 93.5 FM. Jackson is in studio recording his first full length album which is expected to be released in November of 2009.

This young artist is tenacious and determined. His lyrics are insightful and he is willing to challenge the boundaries of the Rap and Hip Hop industry we know today. At times his rhymes are hard and unapologetic, but he can also captivate a club with a beat and an unforgettable hook. But perhaps the most lasting impression Jackson leaves is his humility. While he has become a local celebrity he is never shy to remind fans and critics alike, where he came from and how he got to where he is today. In Jackson’s own words, “It’s a team effort. I couldn’t have done any of this without my family, my boys or the support from my hometown.”

Big up for the props to St. John’s, but you may piss a few people off with that comment. St. John’s is not a town, its like the oldest city in North America, get it right.
