After the the unfortunate canceling of Pauly D’s appearance at Hi Fi Club announced last week, Republic has saved the day (and made the smart move to capitalize on Jersey Shore’s popularity) by bringing in Pauly D themselves. Republic already hosted J-Woww (another Jersey Shore character) this past weekend and from what I heard the place  reached capacity by 11:00PM (leaving hundreds of people left outside in the cold). Think what you want about these “Guido’s and Guidettes” but it has now been proven that they can pack a club and make for a pretty insane party!

Whether you like it or not, MTV’s new reality TV show Jersey Shore has quickly become one of the most popular and talked about shows on television. The concept behind Jersey Shore is that it places 8 Italian Americans in a beach house and camera crews follow them around as they work, party and interact with each other. Massive controversy has surrounded the show (some sponsors and advertisers have even pulled their contracts). Critics have stated that Jersey Shore negatively reflects Italian Americans, promotes disrespect towards females and glorifies dangerous and unethical behavior.

DJ Pauly D is one of the 8 main characters of Jersey Shore and unquestionably one of the most charismatic in the house. Although I am not too familiar with him as a DJ, it looks as though he primarily plays Rap/Hip Hop/R&B/Top 40 type music. For me, part of the attraction of this event will be to see how Pauly truly performs behind the decks. I also suspect that many people will show up to this show simply to see Pauly and hopefully get a picture or two. What can be guaranteed is that Republic will be packed (likely with a lot of girls) and Winnipeg’s own DJ Dow Jones will play a great set as usual. Should be a great party!

Pauly D is Rhode Island’s most well known DJ and keeps a tanning bed in his house. He orders gel by the case and does his hair twice a day–once in the morning and once before hitting the town. Pauly’s charismatic personality has the ability to control and please any crowd. This Italian-American DJ is definitely a “ladies-man”, women have often packed the local night spots just to watch him spin. What he is able to do with his hands and two turntables has been described as “utterly incredible”. Pauly D has been selling out clubs across the country and he will make his first Winnipeg appearance on Monday February 15 when hes DJs at Republic!
