After weeks of rumors, Stephen Hua (the current owner of Republic Nightclub as well as one of the new partners involved in Vivid & Mystique) has finally announced publicly that his promotion company, Sound Republic, is bringing Drake to Winnipeg’s Centennial Concert Hall On July 21 for the hottest concert of 2010.

It was just over 2 years ago when I first heard about Drake. The hype around him was just starting to build thanks to Lil Wayne’s endorsement of his skills and his inclusion of Drake on one of his mixtapes. The first track I ever heard Drake rap on, Ransom, is still my favorite. Drake raps about Toronto and Degrassi among other things and in my opinion completely blows away Lil Wayne who many consider to be one of the greatest lyricists ever. Listen below:

Sound Republic and Hot 103 presents…
-DRAKE – THE AWAY FROM HOME TOUR
with special guests-
Juno Award winner DRAKE has launched his 2010 Away From Home tour in support of his anticipated debut studio album Thank Me Later (due June 15, 2010 on Young Money Records/Universal Motown). The hip hop phenomenon has been rocking the charts since he caught the attention of Lil’ Wayne, thanks to the two mixtapes that the Toronto-based actor and musician recorded under the moniker Drake in 2006 and 2007, while still appearing as the character Jimmy Brooks on the TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation. The singles flowed and the attention grew – from “Replacement Girl” to “Best I Ever Had” and “Every Girl”, Drake was quickly becoming a talent to watch, and soon found himself working in the company of hip-hop’s elite, include Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mary J Blige, Timbaland & Dr. Dre.
-
In September 2009, the EP So Far Gone was released, debuting at #6 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest charting album in the United States by a Canadian rapper, and netted him two 2010 Juno Awards (Best New Artist, Rap Recording of the Year). They join his other plaudits from the BET Hip Hop Awards, and his numerous MTV Video Music Award, Grammy and Soul Train nominations.

Drake’s unprecedented part in today’s hip-hop will continue with Thank Me Later. Featuring production by Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Timbaland, Swizz Beats and more, and performances by West, Jay-Z, The Dream, and k-os, Thank Me Later is one of the most anticipated albums of the year.-

What about Black Eyed Peas!!! They are the Hottest act of the Summer!
@Cmon Man: who cares for the BEP, they suck live! Drake is going to put on a good show, not to mention he is more popular than BEP by far.
