This show will be insane! I saw Lupe when he was in town a couple years ago at the MTS Centre as part of Kanye West’s Glow In The Dark Tour and he puts on an amazing performance! Combine that with the atmosphere of 30,000 University of Manitoba students finishing up their first week of school and looking to party, and you have an event that will go down as one of the craziest in University of Manitoba history.

Tickets are available whether you are a University of Manitoba student or not so there is no excuse not to attend (it is all ages too!). I personally think it is awesome of UMSU to throw an event like this! All of us should come out and support the show, buy a few beers and BBQ’d food to encourage them to bring in more big name acts!

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Manitoba Students’ Union proudly presents Grammy award-winning artist Lupe Fiasco at the University of Manitoba Fort Garry campus. This rain or shine, Party at the Parkade, outdoor event begins with a barbecue and beverage garden with live music and DJs at 6:00 PM on Friday, Sept. 18th at the University Parkade adjacent to the Helen Glass Building on the Fort Garry campus, and ends with an 8PM concert by Lupe Fiasco. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 21 at 9AM.

Lupe Fiasco, a hip-hop artist characterized by dazzling lyricism and beats backed by a wide-range of instrumentation, has been praised by critics as a savior to his genre. Born and raised on the west side of Chicago, Lupe Fiasco delivered his first show-stopping verse with another Chicago native, Kanye West, in West’s hit single “Touch the Sky”. The interest sparked by this song fronted his first official hit single “Kick Push” off of his debut album Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor.

Lupe landed a remarkable three Grammy nominations, including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song for “Kick Push.” He also won the Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance with Jill Scott for their song, “Daydreamin”. Lupe returned with a second album Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool including the hits “Superstar” and “Paris, Tokyo”, and received another four Grammy nominations. His latest hit “Shining Down”, from future release Lasers, is rapidly climbing the charts.

The event is open to all ages. Valid ID will be required to enter the beer garden area. While this is an UMSU event, a portion of the tickets will be made available to non-students through Ticketmaster outlets. U of M student tickets will be available at Answers in the University Centre on campus for $20 while non-students may purchase tickets through Ticketmaster for $35.
