For those who have never heard of Super Spike before, it is not just a beach volleyball tournament. Super Spike is a massive Winnipeg summer event and party which always features great bands, a killer social, volleyball for people of all abilities (and levels of intoxication), and great times had by all.

This year Super Spike is expected to be bigger then ever. The organizers have confirmed Default as the headlining band on Saturday night. Another interesting note is that for the first time ever, the beach courts will be licensed to serve booze and Red Bull will be throwing a “beach themed” after party with Red Bull DJs. In the footer of the website I also noticed the Whiskey Dix logo (maybe an after party or just a sponsorship?)

July 12 EDIT: Whiskey Dix has announced that they are hosting the official Super Spike After Party! 3 buses will leave Maple Grove Rugby Park at 12:40 after the concerts and transport patrons to whiskey Dix FREE OF CHARGE! Also NO COVER all weekend at Whiskey Dix with your Super Spike wristband! Full details on the Facebook event HERE.

Much of the money raised from Super Spike goes toward supporting the Team Canada Womens Volleyball Centre so you can play volleyball, party, listen to great music and all the while know you are supporting a good local cause. If you are looking to help out even more you should take a peek at volunteering for the event which includes many perks (such as a free ticket to the event, food, t-shirt etc.).

The 2009 Coors Light Super-Spike is proud to welcome Vancouver’s Default as this year’s headlining band. Since forming in 1999 Default has released three albums, topped the music charts multiple times, and seen platinum success with sales or more than a million records in Canada & the USA with hit songs such as Wasting My Time, Deny, Taking My Life Away, All She Wrote, & Count on Me. The band’s much anticipated fourth album Still Standing is set to be released in Spring 2009.

Canadian rockers The Ending’s newest single ‘Freakshow’ has recently charged into the Canadian top 20 rock charts. Their self-titled debut is a collection of impassioned melodic rock songs, produced by Gavin Brown (Billy Talent, Three Days Grace), that have the markings of classics. From the first single, “Follow”, to the power ballad “Always” and more forceful “Heart Attack”, the hit quotient of the album is undeniable. The Ending features a magnificent singer in frontman Jesse Stull, and a new beginning for Sergio Galli, the former guitarist with ’80s pop sensations Platinum Blonde.

Winnipeg, Manitoba’s very own Tele was voted Canada’s Top Ten Breakout Bands of 2007 by Chart Magazine. The band recorded their debut album with multi Grammy winner, David Bottrill (Tool, Silverchair, Peter Gabriel). This fall you can hear them on several U.S. TV and radio networks. New release planned for Fall ‘09.

Super-Spike is excited to announce that 2009 will feature a brand new Saturday evening Red Bull Beach Party to close out the event, plus the beach courts will be licensed for the first time ever!!

Live bands perform on the Super-Spike main stage from 7pm – 11pm on Friday, July 17th, and from 2pm – 11pm on Saturday July 18th. Red Bull DJ’s will perform in the beer gardens each night following the bands from 11pm – 1am. A full schedule of exact band times will be listed in the Entertainment section the week of the event.
