Well it looks like 2009 will continue to be a great year for Winnipeg Nightlife. So far this year we have have many new nightclub openings including Republic, Vivid and Level 2. In September 2009, Mystique nightclub will join the ranks and become Winnipeg’s newest nightclub.

-

Mystique Nightclub will be located in to the historic Imperial Bank location at 441 Main Street, right across the street from Whiskey Dix, in the heart of the Winnipeg Exchange District. This location has previously been home to some of Winnipeg’s hottest nightclubs including The Drink, Desire, and most recently The Estate. With Mystique opening, it finally looks like The Exchange District may become the “Nightlife District” Winnipeggers  have being talking about for so long.

-

Mystique, which promises to boast the 4 elements of clubbing (earth, wind, fire and water), has hired Jamie Hall and his team to be in charge of marketing and promoting the club. Jamie has been a major figure in Winnipeg’s Nightlife Scene for many years now. In addition to having his own company which has thrown countless socials and events, Jamie has also been involved in Concerts, TV Shows, Politics and most recently the promotion and opening of Vivid Nite Club And Lounge. We are very lucky that Jamie has agreed to give WinnipegNightlife.ca an exclusive preview of what we can expect to see from Mystique Nightclub Winnipeg.

-

Tell us a little bit about Mystique in general. What type of music will the club play? What type of clientele will the club attract?  How will the interior of the club be themed/decorated?

-

Mystique is what I’ve been waiting to do. With previous projects I’ve had to bend to the will of others. With Mystique the vision, the entertainment, everything is from my head and the heads of my team.  The ownership has their ideas too but the great thing is that we are all on board with the same vision and I can honestly say this is the first time it has ever happened.  We’re working on a party atmosphere without being too pretentious. You can wear shorts, clean kicks and a great feature that we will be introducing is no hats but look phat.  Basically, the worst part about not being able to wear hats is the hat head.  We’ll have hair products available by the door for anyone that needs to get so fresh and so clean.

-

In terms of decor and theme it’s going to be all party.  Our theme is the 4 elements; fire, water, earth and air but you’ll have to wait to see what that means.  I guarantee though, you’ll be shocked … I mean genuinely shocked.

-

Security is always an issue that comes up with nightclubs. What sort of security will be in place at Mystique to keep patrons safe?

-

The first step to safety is to understand that it’s all about a proactive approach.  We are hiring a team of guys that believe in each other’s abilities and will stay vigilant.  The second step is having rules, understanding why those rules are in place and knowing when to enforce them.  No one gets in this club without a search; this would include the Mayor himself if he were to stop by.

-

What will be the age restriction at Mystique Nightclub? What was your reason for setting it this way?

-

Fridays will be 18+ and Saturdays will be 21+.  All other nights are special events and at the discretion of the promoter.  We have set our ages in this fashion to break up the nights and give each night an identity.  Things are that are cool to an 18 year old aren’t necessarily cool to a 25 year old and visa versa.  I know I get pumped when I hear Skee-Lo in the club but an 18 year old would probably walk off the dance floor.

-

Mystique will be located in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District. With some of Winnipeg hottest nightclubs so close by (Republic, Alive, Whiskey Dix etc.), do you think this will help Mystique’s business or be a threat?

-

I think it’s a business and we all need to make our money but in the end I also think Winnipeg club owners and managers need to work together more.  There are some crucial errors being made and if everyone met on the regular and conversed about the state of the industry we would all be stronger for it.  I think there are various reasons why Winnipeg clubs fail but I would say the two most popular reasons right now are not understanding the new market and forgetting why we have capacities.  This can be a great business and I honestly believe if people paid a bit more attention to detail we could have an amazing scene in the Exchange.

-

Can you drop any hints on any special events that may be coming soon to Mystique? Maybe a concert or grand opening?

-

I can’t say much right now but I can say that if you’re lucky enough to be a part of our “Secret Society Party” you’re going to be celebrating more than just the opening of a club but instead the start of something mystic.

-

Anything else you would like to add?

-

This is likely to be my last club project.  I’ve been in the industry for years and would like to transition into other areas so I’m putting everything into this project.  Mystique is going to be 150% of what my team I have to offer to Winnipeg.

Man, what a front. There isn’t anything too mystical about this club’s theme. Everyone who is knowledgeable about mysticism knows that there is the 5th element, ether, the spiritual element, which provides the mystique. Go back to the drawing board!

  2. Kary says:

Evan you are an idiot. It depends on your beliefs. The common more popular belief in the Western world is the 4 elements but there are 5 elemental tables as well. The thing I find funny is that you judged the club before it has even opened and you judged it wrong. What are you doing on a nightlife site if you clearly hate clubs.

    Can’t wait for Mystique!

  3. evan anderson says:

    I’m jaded.

  4. evan anderson says:

Club after club with the same elements?

  5. Peter Catoni says:

Its very narrow minded to say you would search the Mayor Sam Katz if he showed up. Proper Security should know who to hassle and when not to, whether it be in this case and Sam Katz walked in or not just reacting wrong in the violent situations that are sure to happen in a might club in the exchange.

If this club is also themed after the “Las Vegas” type club that Vivid was supposed to, it will never work more than a month or so…once the newness is gone, it will flop. Last thing we need is another downtown club. Alive, Blush and Whisky are more than enough.

Promotion is great for an opening, but I give the place 3 months tops.

  6. TKC says:

I encourage all of the naysayers above to step up to the plate and do something significant with their own lives ~ take a risk, get involved, make something happen or just simply appreciate people who make an effort to grab the bull by the horns, no matter what industry or type of effort they are making. Winnipeg needs to support the people who put their neck on the line, have the vision to work outside the comfort zone, create new ideas, inspire others to get involved and do something vs. boowho like you people are doing.

I don’t care what it is, but go do something that your passionate about and quit harping on someone who’s clearly already taken the necessary steps to follow their dreams. Step up or shut up!

  7. evan anderson says:

I’m showing interest! Am I harping or saying nay? I would love to be involved in bringing mystique to Winnipeg Nite life, but sitting back and soaking up the game without having to get in it is just fine and dandy to me. So just CHILL!

  8. Jamie Hall says:

@ Peter … It’s never narrow minded to be safe. More extensive checks are done for various reasons but there is no one that is just there to party and have a good time that minds the 1 minute it takes to enter our friendly atmosphere. There’s also comfort in the fact that if you know everyone’s being searched you know there’s no chance of an incident.

Vivid was never marketed as a Vegas style club … that was just something that people started saying it. I’m not a fan of campaigns that call a club a “Vegas style” or “New York style” nightclub. Infact, when the “Manhattan” marketing angle was given to us that was one of the driving forces for us to leave.

I’ll see you at the club a year after the opening. LOL.

@ Evan … in regards to the theme there is no club in the city which has used this general theme. I hope you get the chance to come out and check out the difference at Mystique.

  9. Downtowner says:

There’s plenty of room for another club, more clubs make all the other clubs better, mystique will find it’s niche and drive clientele to the surrounding bars. That’s good business! There’s a reason why starbucks opens up across the street from existing coffee shops! Good luck!

  10. staci says:

when does this club open ?

  11. Jamie Hall says:

    Hey Staci,

    Mystique opens October 2 & 3.

  12. Jeff says:

    sounds like douchebag heaven.

  13. Allison says:

What kind of music is going to be played?

  14. Jamie Hall says:

@ Allison … we’re going to play what the crowd that night wants. It’s a younger format on Fridays and older format on Saturdays but if a whole ton of Umpa Lumpas show up there’ll be some show tunes. :P

  15. Antonio says:

    I miss Desire…. :(

  16. Kristin says:

    Hi Jamie,

I would like to inquire about renting the venue for a corporate event. Please provide me with contact information.

    Thanks

  17. Jamie says:

    Hi Kristin,

You can contact us at info@mystiquewinnipeg.com or give the club a call at 204.943.2623.

  18. Yankel says:

this club play techno or progressive trance?
if ya – wich day? we’ll come.. -)

  19. Lexie says:

So, since I’m 18 and all my friends range from 21-25. I can’t get in with them on a saturday night? The drinking age is 18. I’m really not fond of this 21+ rule. I would never walk off the dance floor to Skee-Lo. I would probably never come to this club on a Friday night due to it being the special day that 18 year olds are welcome ( what a privledge! )…it’s like on Tuesdays at Whiskey Dix; horrible crowd.
I’m not trying to be negitive, just my opinion. All the best to you.

  20. Anita says:

hey! i had 1 question ?! how much in cover charge? and is it open on halloween night?

  21. mister says:

you guys can say ALL YOU WANT i’ve been to many many beautiful cool night clubs around the world. the bottom line is THE PEOPLE. You can have all the ideas and concepts but without a solid cool crowds, it will fail. Winnipeg general night club goers are mostly typical and some are very very trashy. No offense if you happen to falls in that category. Another word, Winnipeg night life sucks. I gave up long ago. Good luck Sam!!! I love you regardless.

  22. deborah says:

I’m surprised but I think video and television has taken a part in the fact that Winnipeg finally “gets it”. And Timing is always important.
