wow doesnt surprise me at all the stephen hua and his wonderful club won. this guy is amazing and works his ass off to make sure winnipegers have amazing parties to go too

  2. Brad says:

Nice results :) definitely shows how much hollywood has improved and how republic has taken off!!!

  3. LSDave says:

No surprises here! Congrats to Skeeener, Stephen and Republic!!!!!!

  4. Ryan A. says:

Good job Stephen & John, look forward to the parties to come, and many more events. Merry Christmas!!

  5. steph says:

Doesn’t surprise me. Hollywood Hype is probably the worst and least talented dj in the city. idiots here would eat him up for sure.

  6. not telling says:

Republic was predictable for the nightclub win. Place is always packed, great crowd and they always have special events. Hua was obvious for promoter. Tiesto for best event is questionable as well as Hype for the DJ (and even more surprising is that keesh was so high). Nice to see Whiskey Dix win best weekly night although that rating should only be applicable in the summer when the patio is open (best part of the bar).

  7. connie says:

LMFAO!!! Are you people sh*tting me?! This pole is so bogus! I don’t know who your members/readers are, but the results show that it OBVIOUSLY is not a true depiction of Winnipeg club goes!! Obviously there is not a true representation of Winnipegers, because a true cross-section of residents would have showed a VERY different result!! I couldn’t even tell you where “Republic” was, and I am CERTAIN that they are NOT the number 1 bar in Winnipeg! LMFAO Give your head a shake ‘site admins’, if you are going to run a survey, then perhaps you should try to run one where the results won’t be total BULLSH*T!? Why don’t you go by weekly/annual sales? Or by numbers through the door on the weekly/monthly/annual basis? Maybe THEN, a club that is busy for more then 4 HOURS/week would be the winner of your pathetic survey, and the results would be a little more accurate!!! LOL *rolls eyes at stupidity*

  8. NickerP says:

    Connie, its based on votes.

  9. Night Owl says:

Republic? Huh? I consider Republic a non-entity, because it costs ten bucks to get in there. Bar cover charges on regular nights are five bucks, not ten. So Republic doesn’t exist in my mind. Why would you people screw yourselves? Don’t go to Republic and waste your money! And why would you vote it the best when you’ve just lost all that money before you even walk in? I was at the former Vertigo, and it was okay, but not the best, and certainly not for ten bucks.

You Bring Up An Interesting Point. There Are Definitely Flaws In Every Method Of Determining Something Like This. What Is Important Is That The Poll Is Accurately Represented And Stated To Be Exactly What It Is. This Poll Was Advertised As “Peoples Choice” And The Winners Were Determined Through An Open Public Poll Where Everyone Had An Equal Chance To Vote.

  11. Darren says:

Interesting Admin when someone came on here and insulted Vivid and Mystique maybe because the term Gay was used you deleted the post. But someone is called a whore for their negative opinions about one of the downtown clubs you let it stay. This site is suspect to say the least.

  12. James says:

@ connie , your remarks are pathetic. Your own opinion on the matter does not determine the entire survey :P

  13. connie says:

Agreed, Darren! The vulgar comments remained for 2 days until I finally contacted the site admin.

Admin, if the flaws in your data collection were acknowledged at the outset, then why name the categories as you did? Calling it “Winnipeg’s Best Overall Nightclub of 2009″ is misleading. The results would be no more/less skewed if I started up a site winnipegsbestnightlife.ca! OBVIOUSLY the club which I most closely align myself, where I have the largest circle of friends, would make up a larger percentage of the site/group members, therefore, the results of any “poll” that I would venture to administer would be greatly faulted! If you WANTED an accurate result, with accurate representation, it would have been as simple as frequenting each club and polling a specified, equal number of clients from each club. The sampling would be fair and your results would be as well. As the same questions of each sampling of club goers. But I suspect that you didn’t want a fair sampling or equal representation. So in the future, you may opt to save the mellow-dramatics of a fake survey and just name who you think is best……..just a thought!

  14. Some Guy says:

i can’t help but find humour in connie’s commentary when she clearly passes judgement on a club she has never even been to.

even funnier that she is giving the site crap for running a public vote and not one run like the gestapo.

  15. JD says:

Check out my response in the forums section

It’s a long one so I decided to post it there instead

  16. connie says:

Your comment makes no sense “Some Guy”! Perhaps you should read my “commentary”! lmao I think my statements are pretty unbiased, unlike the rest of this charade, of which you clearly have “a side” that you are favoring. My “judgement” is on the fact that this site is ‘claiming’ that this bar is ‘the best’ when I don’t know one single person who could even tell me where it is! lol As someone who has worked in downtown bars (and others), I know for a fact that even if this bar is busy on both weekend nights (because weeknights are non-existent downtown) that they could never do the type of numbers that other bars do, so how in the world can anyone claim it is the best? *ugh* If you didn’t understand my last comment, then you certainly will never understand this! You are probably an 18 yr old bus boy that works there! LMFAO

  17. connie says:

Site Admin: I’m curious, how many DIFFERENT individuals responded to this survey? Where any of the voters verified to be “real” people? Because clearly, the requirements to vote/comment on this site are very lax, it could easily be one person responding 100 times! What were the selection criteria that made you list the options that you did for consideration?

Aside from all the other flawed aspects of this “survey”, these are others that would greatly affect the outcome of the results. I think you should amend the names of your categories to something a little less deceiving. What you have now is a total misrepresentation of the truth.

The survey received a total of 582 votes. It was set up to only allow one vote per IP Address. Something I thought of when designing the survey is exactly what you are talking about with people voting repeatedly which is why measures were taken to prevent that.
    -
The awards themselves are called “The 2009 WinnipegNightlife.Ca People’s Choice Awards”. As with any “Survey” or “Award” their will always be criticism or people who think otherwise. Many people consider Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize this year controversial. Lots people were shocked when Michael Jackson was voted MTV’s Man Of The Year. People often complain that the election of a Student Group Executive in University is biased and unrepresentative. It is up to the readers to decide what to make of the results and how they choose to interpret them. I will not be changing the names of the categories as I do not believe the results are “a total misrepresentation of the truth”. Their are other surveys/polls out their similar to mine. I think you are taking these results a bit to seriously.

I appreciate your feedback/comments and have provided polite and respectful answers to your questions and concerns (despite your own conduct being questionable by saying things like: “This pole is so bogus”, “LMFAO Give your head a shake” & “*rolls eyes at stupidity*”). Please let the issue go so this discussion can get back on track.

  19. Steve says:

more than 450 – 500 votes were cast before The Palomino became more than just “other” When given choices, people will only use an “other” category less than 3% of the time….

If you run a contest….. try and keep it fair…

  20. Ryan says:

First of all, +1 Well said Admin. Connie you are officially burned. Ouch…
Ok now lets move on. Personally Every single result is a bit shocking to me. I am surprised more people did not vote for Alive. That place flys under the radar and is packed almost every night. I also thought that DJ Dow Jones would win the DJ event. I have never heard of Hollywood Hype but he must be pretty good. Dow Jones it seems plays most major events! AC/DC was my favorite event but I can see how Tiesto would win since a lot of people now days like techno. About the Palomino thing, while I do think it should have been included at first the admin did add it when the issue was brought up. It is tough to run and put something like this and oversights happen…not a big deal

  21. Will says:

I think it’s unfair to say that this site is biased to a certain club when it just seems that Republic has done a better job of promoting online than most other clubs in Winnipeg so therefore they will receive more attention. Whiskey Dix and Alive are on the online space but do not have the presence that Republic or even Mystique carry. This was an online people’s poll* and based on my previous comments above one could conclude that due to superior online promotion, a voter would vote a certain way due to the impressions as well possible experiences within the club itself. The Exchange district in downtown Winnipeg houses Whiskey Dix, Alive, Republic and Mystique. Most people that go to Winnipeg club’s downtown have heard of these clubs unless they have been living under a rock for the past year. Congrats to all winners and nominees!

  22. One says:

Connie’s probably just some lame bartender from a Canad Inns club that’s gone down the shitter in recent years due to actual clubs finally coming to the city.

And for her to complain about a comment against her when she essentially shat all over the site, its readers, and many others is laughable. Just another case of someone with an opinion who can give but can’t take.

And I’ve been to Republic twice, so before you get your panties in a knot and claim I’m just another supporter, don’t bother.

    Poor gal. ;)

  23. One says:

    @ Steve

If the Academy doesn’t nominate your favourite movie of the year as a finalist for the best movie, do you piss all over it? No, you simply move on. Its just an award contest dude, relax and at least attempt to appreciate the work that goes into the site from a sole individual.
