   Best Dj of the year.. I’d have it tied between Dlo, Dow Jones and throw some hectic in there for some good classics!

   Best over all nightclub..Not a fan of canad inn barrs, whiskey dix owned this year but in theory it’s kinda dumb, alive is always awesome and Mystiques new on the block so that’s a hard catagory for them I think.

   Best promoter… Definitely tied between Jamie Hall and Stephen Hua, it depends what you’re looking for though Stephen if you want a great Rave or concert perhaps since he loves to bring in people but Jamie if you want good themes or general overall club nights.

   Best event.. Tiesto for sure because the stage set up was insane!

   Best Weekly club night.. Well you don’t have alot listed here so i’m gonna have to go off the maps and say weekends at Mystique and Alive right now!

   i would have thought that THRILLER would have been on the Best Events list…that party was crazy! Although waiting for drinks was a bitch…but who cares! I’ve never seen REPUBLIC so packed…

   As far as promoters…BUNDOWN SOUND SYSTEM should be up in there! Though it has been a little slow for them lately, they have brought in some good shows and thrown some pretty kick as parties…well, all I have to say is weak sauce for overlooking some top contenders.

    To D-J and fu d-j
    Arguing over who you think is the best DJ in Winnipeg is childish . . . I hope you are both just friends of the DJ you are so strongly backing or dissing, cause if either of you are the dj’s themselves I just lost a whole bunch of respect for you.
    I happen to actually know both the dj’s listed and think they are both good in their own right. Keesh is relatively new to the scene and therefore is still learning as he goes. Has a good selection of music and does a pretty good job at getting the crowd involved,although personally I feel he spends a little to much time on the mic. Hollywood Hype has been around for a bit longer for sure,he is/was also a producer and can actually make a pretty solid beat. He does a pretty good job of playing a mixed style of music to keep the crowd happy but also tends to get stuck playing music directed at the younger club crowd.
    Like I said,I know both the djs and did not vote for either of them.I am also listed on this list and did not vote for myself either. My vote goes to DLO or Dow Jones because they have a great selection of music and feed very well of the crowd…not to mention,Dow Jones is one of the few Dj’s I know that actually looks up at the crowd on every mix he does to see the response.

    What about Dj Alfredo, he’s a kick ass Dj resident of the Pal. He mixes live and doesn’t use programs that auto correct. Unlike most Dj’s in Winnipeg, who have to use Auto correct programs to fix the errors they make when they are mixing.

    thats why….

    with all the feedback..they had no choice but to include them…

    best Promoter in the city is Kevin Donnelly and True North Sports and Entertainment…. since everyone on the list is “suppossed” to be a professional…. they all should be included…

    Bottom Line: I have nothing against The Palomino Club (or any other venue in the city). It not originally being included was an oversight (which is something I realized would come up so I included on purpose an “Other” category) and it has now being added. If this stems in part from the Vivid article, I ask that you re-read the article as it appears you have misinterpreted it.

    Mentioning Kevin Donnely is a very good point. Him and True North have done amazing things for our city. I will attempt to make an effort to recognize them in a future article but I think we can all agree that he is in a very different category and circumstance then all other promoters in the city. Thanks for pointing this out.

    i agree with steve..events that are held at venues such as canadinns stadium or mts centre in no way can even come close to competing with any event at any nightclub in winnipeg (isn’t this site called winnipeg nightlife)..those huge concerts charge atleast $100 a ticket and can sell 10′s of thousands of tickets, which is why they can pay the bands the millions of dollars they charge to come here. As for The Pal, it is probably the most well-known nightclub in winnipeg (everyone’s parents probbably went to the Pal at some point in time) and has paved the way for all of the Canadinns and downtown clubs, even though it hasn’t changed its promotions very much over the years, and continues to succeed…

    adding the Palomino as a choice really isn’t fair, as all the people that voted already were not given it as a choice…. and “other” “doesn’t count as only 2% at most will ever use it.

    Unless you plan to start your contest again, adding it now is just another slap at them.

    lmao all of you (mostly Steve) need to chill out. first of all lets all take a step back and think about what is being argued about, the palomino club. In all honesty, THE PLACE ISN’T THAT GOOD! Among my friends the palomino is a joke. my parents make jokes about the palomino. It is far from being “great and packed” every night. If i had a friend in from out of town there is now way in hell I would take them to the palomino club. end of story. and who the fuck is dj alfredo lol never even heard of the guy. and what are you talking about that he doesn’t use programs that auto correct? you clearly have no idea what you are talking about with dj’ing and software. everyone uses software like serato now to dj. technics even stopped making turntables a couple days ago.
    and about this poll, it is what it is. i kinda agree with the “mystery owner” of this site that he included an other category because including everything would be nearly impossible. I don’t think he works for any club (if he did i would think he works for republic, he posts almost everything for them). appreciate what people do and the time they put in and as with anything take it with a grain of salt. everyone should just take things a little less seriously and maybe go out to some bars rather then sit at home and post comments on some blog. peace

    Palomino has been added to the list…. If you wanna win, get your ppl to promote instead of crying about the late submission. They are not busy every night, they are dead on Tuesdays. And a mediocre crowd on Thursday. Republic is just as busy with their fridays/sats. And Dix definitely is the busiest when school is out with their tuesdays, sats and patio on fridays.

    With the Promoters I haven’t heard of anyone besides stephen, hall, and sheraz ali. And I don’t believe Jamie should be in the running, he only promotes for the club he manages… Hua and Ali do events and supports other clubs besides Republic.

    With the events, yes I agree some of those events are much bigger in scale than others and arent even comparable. If you look at the events, majority of those events were thrown by the same person or ppl lol

    And djs are all great djs listed. Ps. who the hell is dj alfredo lol, please dont add that to the list.

    The admin/manager of this site is trying to do something positive for Winnipeg Night Life so people need to stop bitching and complaining.
